About Us

Our Role

Our roots run deep. The Institute for Performance and Learning (I4PL), formerly the Canadian Society for Training  and Development, is a not-for-profit membership organization for workplace learning professionals.

Supported by a rapidly growing membership with chapters from coast to coast, I4PL exists to elevate the performance and learning profession by setting the standard for excellence in professional practice through a competency framework, code of ethics, and sought-after professional designations.

Our members come from a diverse range of sectors that are united by the knowledge that their skills are critical to the health and prosperity of Canadians.

Our vision

The Institute for Performance and Learning's professionals enable the success of the Canadian workforce.

OUR Mission

We expand the strategic value of learning in the workplace by:
- advancing I4PL standards and competencies for workplace learning;
- collaborating to extend the influence of workplace learning;
- promoting workforce learning as a career path; and
- leading the future of learning through the professional development of our members.
