GENERAL

  • What's certification?

    Certification demonstrates your mastery across a broad range of competencies – we have two designations: the Certified Training Practitioner (CTP) and the Certified Training and Development Practitioner (CTDP).
  • Is it a course?

    No, it’s a self-directed designation acquired through the mastery of the Competencies for Training and Development Professionals.
  • Why get certified?

  • How do I get certified?

    We offer two ways:

    Standard – complete a knowledge and skill demonstration

    Senior Portfolio – completion of a portfolio authentication

  • How much does certification cost?

    Standard certification stream (CTP/CTDP) – $950 taxes

    Senior Portfolio Authentication – $950 + taxes

  • How long do I have to earn my CTP/CTDP once I've paid?

    Candidates have one year to complete the certification process.
  • Do I need to be a member to apply for certification?

    Yes – it’s a requirement of candidacy & after you’re certified, to maintain your certified status.
  • What are the qualifications?

    It varies by stream:

    CTDP certification candidates: minimum of four years’ experience across a broad range of competencies including assessing performance needs, designing training, facilitation, transfer of learning and evaluation.

    CTP: minimum one year of full time experience in facilitation with adult students.

    CTDP (Senior Portfolio): Minimum 12 years’ experience in a learning and development capacity and demonstrated mastery across a broad range of competencies including assessing performance needs, designing training, facilitation, transfer of learning and evaluation.

EXAM

  • What study materials are provided?

    Candidates will have access to the online version Competencies for Training and Development Professionals and the Reference Library.

    This, along with a recommended list of reading materials, found within the handbook (under “preparing for your knowledge exam”,) form the foundation of the study materials

  • What's in the exam?

    CTP: Online, self-proctored, multiple choice, 50 questions (1.5 hours)

    CTDP: Online, self-proctored, multiple choice, 150 questions (3 hours)

  • Can I use the Internet?

    You have 2 minutes per question; you likely won’t have time! The questions are a practical application of the Competencies.
  • Where is the exam schedule?

    Exams are held the last Friday of every month (except December).

    Register at least one month before taking your exam with certification@performanceandlearning.ca.

MAINTENANCE

SKILL DEMO + PROJECTS

  • What is the skill demonstration?

    CTP candidates submit a video of themselves facilitating training – there must be 3-5 participants to participate in group work.
    CTDP candidates choose between a:
    -facilitation video

    -designing training project, or

    -assessing performance needs project

  • When is the demo/project due?

    You must complete the exam before beginning this step. Register at least one month before your project submission – demo/projects are due the first Friday of the following month.
