This week, the provincial government in PEI is funding an essential skills training program for those working in the shellfish industry.

The four week program focused on quality management & food safety. So what are essential skills exactly?

Whessential-skillsat are essential skills?

We need them for work, learning and life. They are the foundation for learning all other skills and allow people to adapt to changes in their workplace.

Essential skills are created for the workplace and used in the workplace – so Canada identified nine of them.


Why is this important for P&L professionals?

Social Research and Demonstration Corp. (SRDC) found that adequately skilled people saw performance gains after essential skills training. Bottom line benefits and employee retention are a few reasons why essential skills training is essential.
